Sometimes we forget who He is. This God that we serve and talk about and worship…sometimes His name becomes so familiar that we forget to step back and take in the whole picture…the fact that it is a miracle — a privilege beyond our wildest thoughts — to step into His presence. To be able to call on Him through His Son.
And in this forgetting, we diminish Him. In our familiarity, maybe we begin to think of Him as too close to human. Not consciously, of course, but when a problem comes along and we don’t really trust Him to work it out for our ultimate good and His ultimate glory…that’s when we’ve made Him small enough to comprehend. In an effort to explain Him, do we lose sight of His mystery? His total Otherness? His complete Holiness?
Maybe it’s intimidating when we remember that He is so far beyond our comprehension. But isn’t that a good thing? Is God, defined and in our secure line of sight, the powerful God we want to surrender our lives to? Isn’t having a faith only in what you find easily understood just having faith in your own reasoning?
I am glad, so glad, that He is exalted far beyond what I can attain. I want us to take a moment to acknowledge Him in His fullness. He is on His throne today, high and lifted up, a rainbow encircling Him, thunder and lightning rumbling, angels singing “Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”
This God that reigns with the earth as His footstool, our God in whom NOTHING is impossible, He is worthy to receive our honor and glory and praise!
He is the First and the Last, the Almighty! He spoke to Moses in His thunderous voice, He shook Jericho’s mighty walls down, He parted seas, healed disease, sent demons back to Hell, and brought the dead to life! He is victorious from beginning to end, and it is by HIS name that the curse of sin is broken…it is by HIS name that Satan holds no power over you…it is by HIS name that your chains will fall behind you and you are set free.
Don’t listen to that voice that says you are not worth enough. Don’t listen to that voice that says it’s time to give up. Don’t listen to that voice that says things are hopeless. Don’t listen to that voice that tells you to be afraid. Satan will lie to you to keep you bound…to make you forget who your God really is…oh, because Satan knows and he fears Him. So don’t allow your enemy to cloud your perspective. Be still and KNOW that HE is GOD.
