In the years I have been blogging, my purpose has remained the same – to remind you (and to remind myself!) that we are fully known and wholly loved by God. In a noisy world that is constantly telling us one thing or another about who we are or should be, we need to remember the reality of who we are in Him: redeemed, free, and beloved.
These days, I believe more than ever that we need the true, steady words of Jesus. It is my deepest hope that my words point you to His Word.
I know that there are a lot of distractions in this culture of ours. Most things are fast-paced and action-filled…and when we are online, there is always one more thing to click…one more thing begging for our attention.
But I believe that we need moments to slow down, to be still. I believe that there is great worth in lingering in an idea and pondering the state of our hearts. I believe there is abundant life found in patiently and prayerfully seeking God.
Words are one avenue to that stillness. Reading and writing have always been my way to settle down, to connect with other people and with God. The writers that I read online truly challenge and encourage me to pursue a life of faith (you can find these writers in places like Christian Women Online or (in)courage…and I am working on re-building a list of bloggers to share with you guys). I love this quote from Eugene Peterson: “Words – spoken and listened to, written and read – are intended to do something in us, give health and wholeness, vitality and holiness, wisdom and hope.” This is true for me and I hope that it is true for you.
As we move into 2015, I am eager to make this little corner of the internet a place of peace – and I hope, with all of my heart, to be faithful in this space I’ve been given. God’s love, simply, changed me. And it’s my incredible joy to have these chances to speak into the world…to speak to you…with this truth: you, too, are loved.
I’ve never set out a long-term plan for this ol’ blog, for many reasons – mostly because of fear. But I am ready to walk forward – trusting Him to guide every next step – and I hope that you will walk with me, too.
So here’s the plan: from now until Easter, I’ll be posting at least three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. We’re going to be taking time to look at different moments in the life of Christ through music, art, and thoughts on Scripture. I am hoping to procure a few guest posts from writers that I admire along the way. Every day, though, I am posting on our Facebook page and twitter (you’ll find music, Scripture, quotes…and, occasionally, random moments from my life).
This is the moment when I humbly and gratefully ask you for a little help – if you think anyone in your life may be encouraged by the words written on this page on a post-to-post basis, please share it. I would love for you to follow the links to connect with me on Facebook and twitter…and to, perhaps, encourage your friends to do the same. If you do want to see the posts in your Facebook news feed, I believe you’ll need to interact with us every now and then – so if you see something that strikes a chord with you, please take a second to like it or respond to it. If the current on-line chatter is correct, then that interaction is necessary to keep seeing the posts in your news feed.
I’ve always hesitated to ask you guys to do this before, but I am going to be brave and say this: I believe that God has called me to write words that will reflect Him and His love. I believe it is one of the purposes He planted in me when He designed this book-worm-ish heart of mine. And as the world around us feels shakier and our hearts so desperately need hope, I believe we all need to come together in sharing His message of grace. I believe in Him. I believe His love is true, His kingdom unshakable, His mercy life-changing. This world needs His story. I want to do my part in telling it.
You, too, have a part in telling His story. Maybe, like me, you use the written word to tell it. But He has designed all of us with our own unique personalities and gifts – so His story can be told in ways that reach every heart in this world. If He has changed your life, let His love fuel whatever you do – music, parenting, teaching, cooking, house repairs, painting, care-giving, accounting …whatever it is that you do in your day-to-day life. And whatever you do, do it with your whole heart, for Him – and you will be making His love known. You will be telling His story.
I am praying that this is the year we will rest in Him, knowing He has already accepted us through the sacrifice of His Son. He loves us for who we are – His children – and not for what we do. Knowing this, I pray that we will seek His heart first and then pursue the path He lays before us…step by step, day by day. May we obey and give our all – because of love. May we tell His story because we know it will bring hope and life. May we surrender our doubts and fears, our imperfections and anxieties, choosing to take our next steps, believing His truth: He is with us and He is our help, our strength. May we remember that it is not by our power that anything is done, but by His. May His Spirit breathe life and power into everything we do and may it all be for His glory alone.
“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” -Col.3:17
Are you taking a step of faith this year? I’d love to hear from you in the comments if you’d like to share a little bit about your journey and your dream!
